Review: Samsung 860 QVO SSD MZ-76Q4T0BW 4TB [MZ-76Q4T0BW]

Samsung 860 QVO SSD MZ-76Q4T0BW 4TB [MZ-76Q4T0BW] – the first solid-state drive from Samsung, built on NAND QLC chips (four-level cell).

The Samsung 860 QVO is a regular 2.5-inch solid-state drive that still uses the general SATA III interface to communicate with the rest of the system. According to the specs, the SSD comes with a QLC 3D NAND flash memory, which leads to an increase in density and therefore lower price than other types of flash memory such as TLC. Unfortunately, as was the case with other new QLC SSDs, the new flash memory may have lower performance and endurance.

Samsung QVO runs at speeds up to 550/520 MB / s, comes with a limited three-year warranty and endurance up to 1440 TB (TBW) for the 4 TB model.

The consistent performance of the Samsung 860 QVO matches that of the Samsung 860 EVO, but worse than 8000 EVO in specifications of 98,000 / 90,000 random read / write operations. This is understandable given that the Samsung 860 QVO focuses on cost rather than speed. Performance seekers should probably choose the EVO or PRO models.

Like all recent Samsung SSDs, the Samsung 860 QVO is equipped with TurboWrite technology, which helps improve disk write performance. SSD is available in three capacities: 1 TB (MZ-76Q1T0BW), 2 TB (MZ-76Q2T0BW) and 4 TB (MZ-76Q4T0BW).

You can buy Samsung 860 QVO SSD MZ-76Q4T0BW 4TB [MZ-76Q4T0BW] or the price 499,- Don’t forget to use discount coupon on computeruniverse.netFWNNROU (How to use it?).

Review: Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 (2280) SATA3 500GB [MZ-N6E500BW]

Samsung 860 EVO is the world’s best-selling SATA SSD. Specially designed for mainstream PCs and laptops, using V-NAND technology and a reliable controller with a streamlined algorithm, this drive is a very fast SSD for everyday tasks.

The EVO series uses 3-bit flash memory per cell (TLC), but it reserves 2.3% of the NAND capacity for background operations and caching. This helps offset the poor write performance of the TLC memory.

Samsung has equipped the 860 series SSD with a new MJX controller that supports low-power DDR4 memory, so it probably has a new built-in memory controller. Most likely, the company managed to create an MJX controller based on a smaller lithography, which ensures lower power consumption, cooler operation and lower production costs.

Samsung approves that its fourth-generation 64-layer V-NAND consumes 30% more power than its 48-layer predecessor. Samsung has taken a big step forward by lowering the input voltage from 3.3 V to just 2.5 Volts. It also allowed to reduce the data access speed to 500 microseconds, which is 1.5 times faster than in the previous generation.

The 860 Series supports hardware encryption using Opal TCG and Microsoft eDrive.

The 860 EVO has excellent endurance and reliability. If there weren’t a new 860 Pro that provides double endurance rating, the 860 EVO would become the market leader in solid state drives with 150 TB endurance for recording for every 250 GB of used capacity. SSDs are still covered by the standard five-year warranty.

Review: Intel SSD 660P M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 QLC Retail Box 1TB [SSDPEKNW010T8X1]

Intel’s new SSD is built on 3D NAND QLC memory with 64 layers, designated by the manufacturer as 3D2 QLC. 1-TB drive is equipped with two chips, with four crystals each. The controller supports NVMe 1.3, PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and Toggle Mode 2.0 and 3.0. The SSD 660p is clearly noticeable reduction in the estimated recording load associated with the transition to QLC NAND. The drive is guaranteed for a period of five years if the TBW resource has not been exhausted. For this 1 TB SSD TBW is only 200 TB, which is even less than in the most entry-level SSDs. As in the case of TLC disks, the SSD 660p is equipped with a rather large dynamic SLC cache for faster write speeds. However, in the case of the Intel SSD 660P M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 QLC, data always passes through the SLC cache, which leads to a significant drop in performance when the cache is full, approximately to the level of the HDD.

Of the positive aspects, in addition to a good price, it has the low temperatures of the drive (in idle mode – 37 ° C, under full load – up to 66 ° C).

Among the main features that appear in the description from the manufacturer is end-to-end data protection, ensuring the integrity of stored data and support for Intel Rapid Start technology, which allows quickly bring the system out of sleep mode.
