We already reviewed the bestseller from Samsung on our website. Since the last order in September 2018, in which this SSD was placed, it had not dropped in price due to its crazy popularity. The disk is still in the segment for budget assemblies, but in 2018 there were many negative reviews about it on the Yandex.Market and Amazon, where customers complain about poor compatibility with AMD systems and a large number of defective unites released in summer of 2018 year.
The SSD uses TLC technology and is not the cheapest option among its rivals. For a long time, it was in demand due to its reliability, about it so much was said in the reviews.
According to Samsung itself, the drive is designed specifically for mainstream PCs and laptops, uses V-NAND technology and a robust controller with a streamlined algorithm. Manufactured in a wide range of form factors for best compatibility with most configurations. Read and write speeds are stable even under high loads and when using multi-tasking. The sequential write speed of the 860 EVO drive using intelligent writing technology (Intelligent TurboWrite) reaches 520 MB / s. The sequential read speed reaches 550 MB / s. TurboWrite buffer size for improvement file transfer speed increased from 12 GB to 78 GB.
The drive write resource (TBW) is up to 8 times higher than a similar characteristic of the previous drive model – 850 EVO SSD. The latest V-NAND technology provides a working life of up to 2400 TBW or a 5-year limited warranty.
Users note that the drive works at the maximum stated speed, as long as the cache capacity is sufficient, then the speed drops to about 300 Mb / S.

Review of Samsung SSD 860 EVO SATA3 250GB [MZ-76E250B/EU]
Experience and reviews indicate the exceptional reliability of this SSD. An excellent drive for your money, recommended first of all for those who choose time-tested options for their own computers.
Advantages and disadvantages
Samsung’s SSD is not one of the most popular drives in Russia, but also in the whole world. In our joint orders from computeruniverse, they were added more than once and I am sure that they will be ordered more than once in future. Of course, today it is not the best option in terms of price / volume, especially among TLC SSDs. However, Samsung managed to prove itself that it manages to sell its discs at a price higher than that of competitors.
– SSD is equipped with modern V-NAND memory and a controller with a debugged algorithm;
– Improved performance: sequential read / write speed of up to 550 MB / s and 520 MB / s, respectively. Reliability: 1.5 million hours of reliability (MTBF)
– The latest V-NAND technology provides the industry’s maximum warranty period (5 years) or 4800 Terabytes.
– Ideal for home and work PCs and laptops for personal, gaming and business use. Operating temperature: 0 – 70 ℃

In 2018, the Samsung product received a lot of negative feedback from customers, this is due to the following problems:
– lack of support for modern AMD chipsets;
– defective SSD batches starting from July 2018;

Customer Reviews
As disadvantages of the Samsung SSD 860 EVO SATA3 500GB, buyers point out only the overestimated cost of the drive, which is more expensive than most other models from rivals. Otherwise, they appreciated the enormous actual disk recording resource, reliable TLC 3D V-NAND memory with 512 Gbps cores, solid appearance, proprietary Rapid mode, and amazing performance in all types of loads. Also, users were satisfied with the work of proprietary utility Samsung Magician, with which it is easy to flash the drive and monitor its health.
upd. Many reviews left in recent months are no longer as rosy as the first. Buyers complain about the lack of support for modern AMD chipsets, confirming the incorrect and slow work of the drive, for example, on AMD 770 Socket AM2 motherboards. However, the problem can be solved by connecting an additional controller (in the case of the author who left a negative review – it was a PCI-E x1 controller from Orient on ASmedia ASM1061 chip). Defective goods are shipped with July 2018 dates of manufacture.

I ordered a hard disk and tested through the Crystal Disk benchmark. It was only giving 50% less speeds than specifications. I have a 5 yr old Samsung SSD with same operating system which was reading above 500MB/S for the sequential test. I have run the same test with another Samsung SSD 850 EVO, which also gave above 500MB/s. I made sure that all the parameters are same for different SSDs.
I got a replacement disk from amazon and it turned to be defective as well. I tried one from Best Buy released in the same month and discovered the same. Samsung’s Quality testing has gone downhill and they should be ashamed of themselves for selling so many defective units.
Before a person from Samsung replies to my comment, they should also note that I have already contacted Samsung and they said the issue can’t be fixed and to return the drive.Critical review of Samsung SSD 860 EVO SATA3 on Amazon site.

It used to be that adding RAM was the easiest and cheapest way to speed up a slow computer. That never addressed the real bottleneck of a computer, which is the hard drive. I had a customer complaining that they probably needed a new computer even though theirs was only a little over a year old. Knowing that they had a standard platter-style hard drive, I suggested this. Boy is she glad that I did! Saved her hundreds of dollars on a new computer and likely thousands on lost time waiting for her computer to ‘compute’ as her entire business relies on her computer to make her money.Positive review of SSD on Amazon
