Review: Intel SSD 760p M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 3D2 TLC 256GB (SSDPEKKW256G801)

Intel SSD 760p M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 3D2 TLC 256GB solid-state drive is an extremely interesting solution in terms of consumer characteristics. The buyer gets more efficient drive with an excellent writing resource and a 5-year guarantee for a lower price than its analogs.

It is an excellent choice for a high-performance gaming or working system, providing high performance, exceptional reliability and energy efficiency. Due to the absence of moving parts, the disc is perfect for any task: from working with Excel and text to content management.

Among the main advantages noted by reviewers and buyers are high performance, high TBW value, five-year warranty from the manufacturer, lower cost than analogues.

The disadvantages include a small amount of SLC cache (when writing files of more than 16 GB, the speed drops to 319 MB / s) and extremely high working temperatures under maximum load (cooling is required), however, analogous SSDs also have these disadvantages. At now any motherboard manufacturers provide special heatsinks for cooling M.2 SSD drives.

Review of Intel SSD 760p M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 3D2 TLC 256GB (SSDPEKKW256G801)

Intel SSDPEKKW256G8XT comes in a small box with a bright and colorful design. On the front side there are only batch numbers of the product, on the back side – all the device characteristics. There is only user manual in package. The drive itself is reliably protected from external influences, thanks to a plastic blister and box.

The SSD controller is manufactured by Silicon Motion and is T06B66 labeled, SM2262 chip is used.

When compared to the chip of the previous generation SM2260, the new controller has performance twice as better, although it is also based on a 2-core processor with 8-channel memory access. One of the main innovations is error correction based on LDPC codes and support for the NVMe 1.3 protocol.

The disk is based on two Intel / Micron 29F01T4ANCTH2 chips – 64-layer 16 nm memory 3D2 TLC.

Intel SSD Toolbox is a compact, functional and user-friendly software that allows you to view detailed technical information about the drive, SMART, and also perform a quick diagnostic scan. Another useful feature in this application is Secure Erase, which allows you to delete all data without the possibility of recovery.

Main Features

Accelerate your PC performance with the optimal PCIe bandwidth of the Intel® SSD 760p Series.

The Intel® SSD 760p Series combines PCIe performance, versatile capacities, and high-quality Intel® 3D NAND technology to deliver twice capacity, twice the performance, and up to 50% of the power consumption1 than its previous generation -the Intel® SSD 600p Series.

The Intel SSD 760p features an M.2 thin profile with PCIe Gen3 x4, NVMe interfaces, and is ideal for a wide range of devices from desktops to laptops. The SSD is backed by a five-year limited warranty and Intel’s world-class quality leadership.

Performance to Handle Multiple Tasks

The SSD 760p is designed to effortlessly manage demanding consumer client applications and easily handle intense multi-tasking.

The SSD 760p accelerates platform performance with sequential reads of up to 3,230 megabytes, sequential writes of up to 1625 megabytes per second (MB/s), and random read and write input/output operations per second (IOPS) of up to 340K and 275K, respectively.2

The SSD 760p enables PC users to experience enhanced efficiency with the applications they care about, and up to 6x better performance2 than SATA SSDs.

3D NAND Delivers Up to 2TB Capacity

The SSD 760p is part of the Intel® 3D NAND SSD family of products. Built on Intel® 3D NAND Technology, these SSDs are designed to transform the economics of storage. The SSD 760p offers capacity points up to 1TB on single-sided M.2, and up to 2TB on double-sided M.2, enabling system designers the flexibility to design for thin/light systems or to provide space for other components.

The combination of Intel® 3D NAND technology and PCIe enables Intel® SSDs to push the limits of performance and value.

Performance at Lower Power

The SSD 760p provides extended battery life through low power modes. It reduces idle consumption by >90% compared to a typical hard disk drive, reducing power consumption from watts to milliwatts.3 When coupled with an 8th generation Intel® Core™ processor-based platform, the advanced power mode settings reduce active and idle power consumption by up to 50% versus the prior generation device (SSD 600p Series).

Quality & Reliability You Can Trust

The SSD 760p is backed by Intel’s five-year limited warranty, including Intel’s world-class post sales customer support. The SSD 760p also supports AES 256-bit selfencryption to provide protection of critical data stored on the device.

Customer reviews, advantages and disadvantages

According to customer reviews, the Intel SSD 760p M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 3D2 TLC 256GB is one of the fastest NVM Express drives with a capacity of 200-240GB in the world, with speed and reliability among the main advantages.

Intel’s SSD is better in many aspects then main competitor Samsung drives and at the same time cost a bit less.

The main disadvantage of the drive is a strong heat in the process, up to 70 degrees.

Excellent upgrade for 2017 Macbook Air

I purchased this SSD to upgrade my 2017 Macbook Air. Of course Apple uses a propritary connector so I also purchased a ‘JSER 12+16pin 2014 2015 Macbook to M.2 NGFF M-Key SSD Convert Card’. They both fit and work like a champ.

I chose this drive after reading about the Samsung EVO models reducing battery life and causing more heat. The Intel SSD7 only uses up to 1W when active and 25mW when idle while the Samsung EVO uses over 5.4W.

10 second boot time

Honestly I didn’t know what an m.2 SSD was when it came in a bundle I got for my pc. But holy hell is this thing pretty sweet. It’s pretty small and doesn’t use the normal hard drive trays or power, connecting directly in the motherboard itself instead. I put my os on it and from boot to the home page takes about 10 seconds which is faster than most traditional SSD. It gets a bit hot but most atx motherboards will have a heat sink for them now.
