Review of be quiet! Pure Rock Slim CPU-Kühler 92mm

be quiet! Pure Rock Slim CPU-Kühler is a CPU cooler, focused on the main audience of PC users. Cooling technology for silent multimedia and graphics systems and entry-level computers of all types. Pure Rock provides exceptional value for money. The Pure Rock Slim design is compatible with all modern motherboards and is particularly suitable for PC cases with limited space due to its asymmetrical and compact design. If you are looking for the best combination of performance and cost, your search is complete. Pure Rock Slim is bound to be your choice.

The package includes instructions, brackets for fixing the fan and mounting system for AMD platforms. The cooler is equipped with a 92 mm fan of the Pure Wings 2 series with a maximum speed of rotation of the blades of 2000 rpm. Despite the seeming simplicity of the radiator, the manufacturer has thought through every detail: at the base there is additional fins, which increases the heat dissipation area, the heat pipes are placed so that the air flow from the fan passes through the whole set of them.

The soldering of heat pipes to the base has a very good quality, the solder is applied with a slight excess, which is good. The thermal interface has already been applied to the base of the radiator at the factory.

Thanks to the 4-pin cable, it becomes possible to control the fan speed using special programs.

The cooler is fixed on the motherboard with the help of four plastic clips. It will be a little harder to install the fan on heatsink when the motherboard already installed to the system unit.

The main advantage of the cooler is its compactness. It does not interfere with either the installation of memory rails, or the installation of a video card to the main PCIe slot, even if the device is rather long.

Key features

  • High cooling efficiency in this category, at 120 watts TDP.
  • Three 6-mm heat pipes with aluminum caps provide high heatsink efficiency.
  • The compact design saves space by making the cooler compatible with a wide range of equipment and possible configurations.
  • Optimized for quiet operation 92mm be quiet! Fan (max. 25.4dB (A)).
  • The cooler does not interfere with the installation of memory rails in PC cases with limited space.
  • PWM-controlled rotation speed for the best balance of cooling and quietness.
  • Fan blades are airflow-optimized to reduce noise-generating turbulence
  • Aluminum finish top cover
  • 3 years warranty from the manufacturer

SLIM AND COMPACT DESIGN

For densely packed multimedia and graphic systems

Thanks to its asymmetrical and compact construction Pure Rock Slim is the perfect choice for PC cases that have limited space. Notwithstanding it allows full configuration of RAM memory banks. For this reason the cooler is compatible with a vast array of equipment and allows many possible installation configurations.

HIGH COOLING EFFICIENCY

A good choice for entry level computers of all types

Pure Rock Slim is aimed at the essential category of PC systems. With 120W TDP it offers an astonishingly high cooling capacity for this category.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE HEATPIPES

The essential feature behind its top performance

Pure Rock Slim is equipped with three heat pipes that have aluminum caps. This is the key to its great cooling performance, because they transport the heat to optimum locations on the cooling fins.

SILENCE-OPTIMIZED OPERATION

Only 25.4dB(A) even at 100% PWM functionThe seven-bladed silence-optimized 92mm be quiet! PWM fan with high-quality sleeve bearing facilitates the best balance between cooling performance and silent operation. The fan blades are airflow-optimized to reduce noise-generating turbulence.

Testing of be Quiet! BK008 Pure Rock Slim — CPU Cooler

Testing was carried out on four processors from Intel and four from AMD. “Intel – Core i7-8700K, Core i5-8600K, Core i3-8350K and Core i7-7700K, Ryzen 7 1700X (8 cores), Ryzen 5 1600 (6 cores), Ryzen 5 1400 (4 cores) and A12-9800 (4 cores + integrated graphics).

To determine the cooling efficiency, the temperature of the processors with the be quiet! Cooler installed was measured. Pure Rock Slim CPU-Kühler 92mm during one hour of building the scene using the processor in 3Ds Max 2017, one hour of data archiving with the 7z program and one hour of playing in GTA V.

Customer Reviews

Some buyers consider that be quiet! Pure Rock Slim CPU-Kühler like the quietest CPU cooler they ever used. The maximum fan speed is 2000 revolutions per minute, but at the same time, with the most severe loads, the revolutions usually do not rise above the mark of 1400 RPM. Buyers who reported about quiet working of device put quiet! Pure Rock Slim CPU-Kühler on i3 and i5 processors.

The cooler is connected to the 4-pin connector, which allows you to adjust its speed through the BIOS or a special program. The fan has a specially-designed impeller, which reduces turbulence, which in turn minimizes airborne noise. The users also liked the simplicity of the fan installation: it is ready to stand on the motherboard from the box, thermal paste has already been applied to it and arcs for installation have been embedded.

Despite generally positive reviews, some buyers found the cooler an unacceptable option for high-load tasks. In these cases, it was not able to cool the processor and it is recommended to use slightly more expensive alternatives, for example, Zalman CPU Fan with 92mm Fan LED (CNPS9500A LED-CU).

Best value for budget CPU cooler
June 1, 2017 [Verified Purchase]

I’ll start off by saying if you’re a PC enthusiast on a budget the Pure Rock Slim variants are a fantastic value for the price. Unboxing the cooler you could just tell the quality of the product. You take the cooler out of the box and it just feels like you’re holding greatness.

As far as installation it comes with thermal paste pre-applied which is very convenient. The process of installing was a breeze apart from clipping the fan on. When I installed it my motherboard was already in my case.

I’m not sure if it’s just me and I have clumsy slow hands but it took me a good half hour to figure out how to get the CPU fan mounted. It definitely wasn’t smooth and felt forced. I watched some youtube videos and it appeared to be of no issue for them, although they were different variants of the be quiet! cooler. I ended up just pulling the clip back with force to get it tucked under the tower.

The cooler itself looks real good, it’s added a lot to the overall look of my build. It also lives up to it’s name, I can’t hear a thing.

Silent but hot (and not in a good way)

It’s good enough for stock speeds on most CPUs, but stay away if you want to keep things cool. It’s more or less useless if you want temps under 80° C under any real strain, such as converting audio or video files, rendering or editing pictures, or other such tasks involving using the might of a modern CPU.

Even at idle with an ambient at 21° C, both CPUs I tried with it ran at somewhere between 35° and 40° C. I eventually wound up pulling an old heat sink that I knew was good at cooling in order to confirm whether or not I’d done a poor job at installation. The cooler I used was a Zalman CPNS9500A and while I know that it’s a far more capable cooler, running at minimum fan speed with the same thermal compound, the cooler was still the next best thing to 30° C cooler while running a Prime95 torture test (Tmax was 50° to 55° C).

To its credit, it was completely silent. It was just utterly useless at cooling both a Ryzen 5 1600X and Ryzen 3 2200G. Unless the sound is too much for you, just use a stock cooler. You’ll get the same or better results and save yourself some money in the process.Zalman CPU Fan with 92mm Fan LED (CNPS9500A LED-CU)
